Change. I moved to Toronto from what was Czechoslovakia in my early 20s and attended OCAD. Then I went to work at some design studios before setting up my own – Obscura visual communications. It grew and required a small team of designers to service the workload. The pressures of meeting an expanded payroll and my own dissatisfaction with my supplier status led me to rethink my approach to the business. Joel and I had worked together as a design-writing creative team and we always liked the results. We also shared a perspective that we felt the work we were doing wasn’t reflective of our own creative philosophy. So we set up Collectivity to pursue that approach.
